Nazim Uddin was sentenced to five years in prison at Luton Crown Court

A teenager who stabbed a man in the back outside a busy shopping precinct has been jailed for five years.

Police said Nazim Uddin was outside the Co-op in Church Lane, Bedford, in August 2024, when he had a heated argument with the victim.

The 18-year-old stabbed him before fleeing in a taxi, in what police described as an "unprovoked" attack.

Uddin, of no fixed address, was sentenced on 14 March at Luton Crown Court after being convicted of grievous bodily harm and carrying a bladed article.

The victim, who was left with life-threatening injuries, has since recovered.

"This was a violent attack which could have ended the victim's life," said Det Con Chloe Vickery.

"Uddin's actions were unprovoked and without any regard for the incident occurring in a public place outside a busy shop in the late afternoon.

"The victim in this case has been incredibly brave in coming forward - we thank him for having the courage in doing so."
