Police seal off part of town after grenade found

An area of Bedford town centre was cordoned off after a suspected unexploded grenade was discovered.

There was a heavy police presence in Adelaide Square after the device, believed to be a World War One grenade, was found on Friday evening.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts from the Ministry of Defence were contacted and would be attending to make the device safe, police said.

Police advised people to avoid the area.

At about 21:00 BST, police said the cordon was lifted.
