Drivers have been warned to expect delays during works to repair a key route to the M6.

Lancashire County Council will carry out roadworks on the A6070, which links the motorway to the A6 at M6 junction 35.

The closures will be from 20:00 GMT to 06:00 from 17-22 February.

The road is being resurfaced in the "final stage of a major project to bring it up to standard" and to ensure it "meets future transport needs after 60 years in service", the county council said.

The A6070 will be closed for westbound heading towards Carnforth from the M6 on Monday and Tuesday.

It will be fully closed on Wednesday and Thursday before it is shut eastbound on Friday and Saturday.

Diversions will be in place and motorists have been warned the schedule could change at short notice due the weather.

The county council been given over £9.2m by the Department for Transport to carry out improvements including reducing the speed limit to 50mph, replacing the hard shoulder with a grass verge, resurfacing and landscaping.
