A 29-year-old man has been jailed for more than six years after being caught with 8.7kg of cocaine.

Warren Chiddy, from Keynsham, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

Police officers carried out a warrant at an address in Staple Grove on 24 March, where they located a safe and two carrier bags containing packages of cocaine thought to be worth £700,000.

"The seizure of almost nine kilograms of cocaine represents a significant disruption to the supply of illegal drugs in our community," said Sgt Rob Turner, of the Keynsham Neighbourhood Policing Team

"The action taken by the neighbourhood policing team reflects the dedication and diligence of our officers in responding to community intelligence, targeting organised crime and keeping the public safe," he added.

Chiddy, who was jailed for six years and four months, had been arrested on 2 April after a wanted appeal was published on social media.
