A farmer ploughed a message into his field as a protest against changes to inheritance tax.

George Brown, from Newbury, Berkshire spelt out the words "no farmers, no future, food for thought" in his field below the Heathrow flight path.

A government spokesperson said its £5bn investment in farming was "the largest budget for sustainable food production in our country's history".

A dog groomer from Poole was "in disbelief" after her pet won the most handsome dog trophy in the special crossbreed competition at Crufts.

Crufts is only open to pedigrees but non-purebed dogs can enter Scruffts, which is held in conjunction with the main contest.

Jody Hall, whose border terrier/cocker spaniel cross, Chester, won the trophy said going to Crufts had been a childhood dream.

A facility designed to store and recover a fuel used for nuclear fusion is set to be built.

United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and Italian energy company Eni have partnered to construct the facility at the Culham science campus in Oxfordshire.

Tritium is a radioactive form of hydrogen which is heated and forced together to make a heavier particle during nuclear fusion.

Phil Stevens, from Hampshire, said he developed an addiction to gambling and spending after taking prescription medication for restless leg syndrome (RLS).

He claimed his GP did not warn him about the side effects of the drug and after taking legal action against his doctor he received a £70,000 settlement - but they did not admit liability.

A "rare surviving" relic of the D-Day landings could be relocated to the entrance of an army port.

Associated British Ports (ABP) has submitted a proposal to move a flexible roadway section of a World War Two Mulberry Harbour called Whale, which is currently at Town Quay in Southampton.

ABP wants to move the Grade II listed structure from the east of Royal Pier, restore it and display it as a "gate guardian" at Marchwood Military Port in time for the 80th VE Day anniversary.
