Three arrested after stolen car crashes into pub
Three teenagers have been arrested after a stolen car crashed into a pub while being pursued by police.
Essex Police said officers signalled for the black Ford Fiesta to stop in Ongar on Saturday but it continued to Fyfield, before crashing into the pub on Queen Street.
Police said all three of the occupants left the car, two of them running through the pub's garden and jumping into a river, attempting to swim to the other side.
They were tracked by officers with the help of a police dog and a third suspect was also detained.
There were no injuries to any members of the public.
Police said the car had been stolen from Saffron Walden overnight on Thursday.
After it failed to stop, officer "continued to safely follow" it, the force said.
An 18-year-old man from Ongar was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and driving while disqualified.
He was also found to be wanted for two other serious offences.
Two 17-year-old boys from Harlow and Chelmsford were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
All three remain in custody.
Ch Insp Julia Finch said: "Unfortunately, this is the second such incident in Essex this weekend and it is only thanks to the professionalism of the officers involved that this came to a conclusion without any injuries to the public."
