Town centre road reopens following storm damage
A town centre road in Surrey has reopened after more than a month, following storm damage to a nearby hotel.
Victoria Way in Woking was shut in both directions on 7 December when panels on a Hilton hotel development became dislodged by Storm Darragh.
Further problems with the exterior cladding on the hotel meant the road was not safe, according to the design and build contractor Sir Robert McAlpine.
After reopening on Wednesday, Woking Borough Council's leader Ann-Marie Barker said: "I recognise the significant challenges this closure has caused for residents, businesses, and visitors, especially over the festive period."
She added that she was "relieved" the road had reopened.
Ms Barker said Victoria Square Woking Ltd was working with its contractor Sir Robert McAlpine to clarify if further works would be needed.
The road was previously closed on 25 November following Storm Bert, due to concerns over loose cladding.
Hilton has been contacted for a comment.
