Squirrel event to honour dad killed in hit and run
A Jersey charity worker will be remembered as part of a special memorial run.
Dean Lowe and his son Charlie were killed in a hit-and-run incident in August 2023.
Mr Lowe used to work for the charity Jersey Employment Trust (JET) which helps people with disabilities or long term health problems find work.
He dressed up as a squirrel to run the the Virtual London Marathon in April 2023 and now JET has set up a fundraising Squirrel Run on 13 March in his memory.
Caroline Spencer from JET worked with Mr Lowe and has organised the Squirrel Run.
She said: "We are hoping for at least 50 people dressed as squirrels to do a run through town. It would've been Dean's 50th birthday in February so we wanted something light hearted.
"The money raised will specifically pay for employment opportunities for people with disabilities so it's all about getting people into jobs and Dean would have liked that."
Runners will meet in their squirrel costumes at West's Centre and head to the end of Bath Street, turning right on to Queen Street, going to Charing Cross, then back to the finish line in the Royal Square.
Tony Greed, who was in a band with Mr Lowe, knew him for 24 years and will be taking part.
He said Mr Lowe would have "loved this concept" and "he was just the most amazing person you could have ever known".
"Dean will never be forgotten, in 20 years' time people will still be talking about Dean Lowe because he just touched everyone's life that he met," Mr Greed added.
