Rail woes continue as crash site borehole filled
PA MediaRail disruption caused when a train and a vehicle collided at a level crossing will continue as engineers attempt to fill a borehole near the crash site.
Staff found the borehole during an inspection after a train hit the back of a vehicle, near Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria on Saturday afternoon.
Network Rail said it would take time to backfill the hole, which had been left over from previous inspections.
As a result, journeys between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster would be disrupted throughout Sunday with buses replacing trains.
A spokesman said: "Customers can use TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast services between Preston and Lancaster."
The company said Lancaster - Morecambe services and Windermere - Oxenholme services were now operating in both directions.
The borehole was found after a Northern train hit the back of a vehicle on a level crossing on Saturday.
Nobody was injured in the crash.
