Parkrun event cancelled for next few weeks
Organisers of a town's Parkrun have cancelled the event for the next few weeks after the outdoor space was said to need a break.
Ipswich Parkrun have been advised by Ipswich Borough Council to rest Chantry Park as bad weather and high footfall has meant it cannot be used for the weekly Saturday event.
The team behind the run said it consulted with the authority to tweak their route but "considerable changes" would be needed forcing them to stop the event and consider alternatives.
Ipswich Borough Council has been approached for comment.
Ipswich Parkrun said: "We've been asked to rest Chantry with the impact of our continued footfall across what's been a very wet autumn and winter so far.
"We are sadly going to have to cancel Ipswich Parkrun this weekend and for the following few weeks, while we work with the Council and with Parkrun UK to come up with a new plan.
"We hope you'll see this as a good excuse to try out some of our fellow Suffolk Parkruns and we hope we'll see you back in Ipswich very soon."
Earlier this month, Suffolk County Council was pleased that data showed the county's participation in Parkrun had returned to pre-pandemic levels.
Last year, Suffolk's 17 Parkrun events, where people run or walk 5km (3 miles) on Saturday mornings, had an average of 2,980 people taking part.
