Driver dies in crash with lorry

A car driver has died in an early morning crash with a lorry.

The victim's Land Rover and the truck collided on the A19 northbound near Castle Eden, County Durham, at 06:45 BST on Thursday.

Pictures from the scene show the damaged vehicle covered with a tarpaulin at the rear of a large lorry transporting two huge cylindrical containers.

The family of the 42-year-old male driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, have been notified and are receiving support, police said.
