Senior police officer suspended after disturbance arrest

A senior police officer has been suspended from his job after being arrested in connection with a disturbance in North Lanarkshire.

Ch Supt Pat Campbell was charged following an incident at a property in Airdrie in the early hours of Sunday 20 April.

He was released on an undertaking to appear at the town's sheriff court at a later date.

The senior detective formerly headed the force's organised crime and counter terrorism unit and led the investigation into the death of Sheku Bayoh in 2015.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said officers were called to a report of a disturbance at about 01:35 on 20 April.

A report has been prepared for prosecutors and is currently under consideration.
