What are the benefits of exercise during Ramadan?

Free exercise sessions are being run across the UK to help Muslim women stay active during Ramadan.

Sessions are being held in Ward End, Birmingham, by fitness coach Selina Hussain, with adaptations made during fasting, such as lower intensity and shorter workouts.

Ms Hussain says: "I think there is a misconception or a myth that you shouldn't be exercising during this month.

"If you are well hydrated in your pre-dawn meal, it's absolutely fine to exercise."

The exercise classes focus on conversations around discipline during Ramadan, with non-Muslim women also welcome to take part.

Ms Hussain says: "We like to bridge gaps between communities, it's all about inclusivity and diversity.

"We address this by having open conversations about the benefits of fasting, and why we fast, so really it's about gaining knowledge." Ms Hussain added.

Since launching in June 2024, Inspiring Fitness now has 39 locations across the UK.
