Date set for Sycamore Gap tree felling trial

The date of a trial for two men accused of chopping down the Sycamore Gap tree has been set.

Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, both from Cumbria, are charged with causing £622,191 worth of criminal damage to the famous Northumberland tree.

They are also accused of causing £1,144 of damage to Hadrian's Wall, a Unesco World Heritage Site, which was hit by the tree when it was felled overnight on 28 September 2023.

Mr Graham, of Milbeck Stables, Carlisle, and Mr Carruthers, of Church Street, Wigton, will appear before a jury at a trial starting on 28 April at Newcastle Crown Court.

The trial is expected to last for 10 days.
