An application has been submitted to transform a former hotel into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO).

The 19-bedroom property on Midland Road, Wellingborough, was the Euro Hotel before being repurposed as The Seen and Heard hostel during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A planning document said: "The proposed development would make a positive contribution to the housing requirement for Wellingborough through the provision of 23 new rooms."

No date has been set for when North Northamptonshire Council will decide on the application.

The document said the site offered "an appropriate opportunity to bring a vacant building, positioned within a sustainable location, back into viable use".

The hostel shut last year following a decision by the local authority.

The plans also emphasise the need for affordable housing in the area, describing the project as a way to "deliver much needed residential accommodation in a highly sustainable urban location, making most effective use of a vacant and underutilised building".

While the building's facade will remain unchanged, the plans outline a rear extension to house cycle storage facilities.
