Death by dangerous driving arrest after car crash

A motorist has been arrested after his passenger died at the scene of a crash.

Police were called to Hackmans Lane in Purleigh, Essex, shortly after 02:30 GMT on Monday after the single-vehicle collision.

A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, also in his 20s and from Brentwood, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

The suspect was released under investigation while inquiries continued.

Essex Police appealed for information from anyone with dashcam footage.
