An inaugural film festival is due to take place in Beverley later.

The first Glowflare Short Film Festival will be hosted by Parkway Cinema and will feature a selection of more than 40 short films from around the world, including some by local people.

They will be shown in six sessions and there will be a chance to take part in a live Q&A with filmmakers.

The event will be followed by an awards ceremony at 21:00 GMT, which will honour the best film, director, actor and actress.

Daniel Smales, the festival director, said it promised to be "an unforgettable day of cinema, community and creativity".

"I'm most excited to bring filmmakers and film lovers together under one roof to celebrate the creativity and passion that independent cinema offers," he added.

Among the entries to be shown at the cinema in Flemingate is Westwood Cows – a homage to the cows that live on Beverley Westwood.
