A man in his 50s is in a life-threatening condition after a suspected assault at a petrol station in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to the Esso garage in Fourth Avenue, Harlow, just after 03:30 GMT.

Essex Police said the man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and officers have begun an investigation into the incident.

The force appealed for anyone who was near the petrol station, or was driving past and might have dashcam footage, to get in touch.

Det Insp Karen Knibbs said: "I know an incident like this is concerning to the public; our officers were at the scene within seven minutes, and we will be in the area to continue our inquiries."
