Two men jailed after weapons and drugs seized

Two men have been jailed after a vehicle stop led to police uncovering deadly weapons and carrier bags full of drugs.

Avon and Somerset Police pulled over a black BMW on Bond Street in Bristol on 2 October 2024, as it was suspected of having a cloned number plate.

Sepehr Yousefali, 22, of no fixed address, and David Meti, 22, from London, were found with a machete, a loaded gun, cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, 2-CB and cannabis.

Both men pleaded guilty to all charges and were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday. Yousefali was jailed for eight years and nine months, while Meti was given a four-year prison sentence.

After the car was stopped, police approached Yousefali - the front seat passenger - who informed officers he had a loaded gun hidden in the waistband of his trousers.

Officers seized the firearm, along with a machete found between the driver's seat and the door.

The firearm was a converted 9mm blank firing handgun, and was loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

A further search led officers to discover two carrier bags full of drugs with an estimated street value of almost £6,000.

The pair were charged with three counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and two counts of possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

Yousefali was additionally charged with and pleaded guilty to:

  • Possessing a firearm of length less than 30/60cm
  • Possessing a loaded/unloaded firearm and suitable ammunition in a public place
  • Possessing a firearm when prohibited for five years

Meti was also charged and pleaded guilty to:

  • Being in possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place
  • Using a motor vehicle without third party insurance

'Profit from misery'

Senior investigating officer Det Insp Nicholas Lawson said: "It is clear from the weapons Yousefali and Meti had in their possession that they had the potential to cause serious harm.

"The pair were transporting a significant amount of illegal drugs, that no doubt would have ended up on the streets of Bristol had officers not wisely taken the proactive action to stop the vehicle.

"Our inquiries found they were deliberately targeting people who enjoy Bristol's night-time economy and seeking to profit from the misery that such substances cause.

"We will never tire in our efforts to target those that seek to bring drugs to Avon and Somerset, and will continue to specifically target drugs lines which seek to further the plague of drugs within our communities."
