A 14-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car on a bridge in East Ayrshire.

The crash happened at about 17:10 on Wednesday near Hurlford, on the outskirts of Kilmarnock.

Aiden McLuckie, a pedestrian, was on a bridge on the A76 over Cessnock Water and died at the scene.

The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa and his two passengers did not require hospital treatment.

Sergeant Brian Simpson said: "Our thoughts remain with Aiden's family and we are providing them with support as our inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of this incident."

Police Scotland urged anyone with information it contact the force.
