Warning ahead of A38 Saltash Tunnel upgrade work
Drivers have been urged to plan ahead when a £25m refurbishment project on the A38 starts on Monday.
National Highways said the Devon-bound carriageway of the Saltash Tunnel in Cornwall would be closed between 20:00 GMT and 06:00 on week day nights until 25 February.
There will be a diversion route from Carkeel roundabout along the B3271 and North Road.
A spokesperson said the following phase of work starting on 25 February would close both carriageways at the same times on weekday nights until a date yet to be determined in the summer.
'Massive investment'
It said the refurbishment of the 37-year-old structure would include electrical work, installing new LED lighting, fans and signs.
Tunnel manager Julian Mitchell said National Highways appreciated road closures could be frustrating, but were needed so the work could be done safely.
He added: "The tunnel forms a key route between Plymouth and south east Cornwall, it's a massive investment for the South West, and the work is being carefully planned with our Tamar Bridge partners and other stakeholders.
"We're keeping all closures to an absolute minimum, we thank all drivers and residents in advance for their co-operation and patience and advise people to plan their journeys and allow a little extra time."
