Crafts and poetry to celebrate Woking Library refurb

Woking Library is hosting a week of activities to showcase its refurbishment.

Surrey County Council finished library improvement works in January after starting them in July 2024.

The space has been kitted out with new furniture, more study space and new public toilets, and will be rolling out technology to allow out-of-hours use in February.

Taster events run from Monday 27 January until 1 February and will include crafts and poetry workshops as well as reptile encounters for children over the age of five.

The Chinese Association Woking is hosting two Tai Chi classes and a calligraphy workshop to celebrate the upcoming lunar new year.

Councillor Denise Turner Stewart said: "Investing in our libraries to create vibrant cultural and community hubs is fantastic for the people of Surrey."

The refurbishment is part of Surrey County Council's library multi-million pound modernisation programme.

The first phase of this work will see improvements for Epsom, Redhill, Staines, Woking and Weybridge libraries by the end of 2025.

Super Access technology will let library users visit the library during unstaffed hours using their membership card.

The technology is now available at Camberley, Dittons, Dorking, Egham, Godalming, Horley, Oxted and Woking libraries.
