Drivers have been warned there may be more traffic on the A3 near Wisley

A section of the M25 has been shut as part of a £317m project to add extra lanes.

All slip roads off junction 10 of the motorway at Wisley, in Surrey, closed at 21:00 GMT on Friday and are expected to reopen by 06:00 on Monday.

Ahead of the closure, drivers were urged to avoid the west side of the M25 and to expect delays if unavoidable.

The project to create the extra lanes at junction 10 began in 2022, with a completion date this summer, but was later pushed back by about nine months due to "periods of extreme weather".

Surrey Highways says both the A3 and M25 will remain open but it will not be possible for drivers to change between the two.

The M25 will also be closed in both directions between junction 10, near Wisley, and junction 11, near Woking, between 7 and 10 March, as well as from 21 until 24 March.

The AA is also warning drivers to expect roads near the Wisley stretch of the A3 to have more traffic while the closures are in place.

Following the works in March, there are no further planned closures of the M25's main carriageway.
