A new skate park is set to open in Surrey.

The skate park at Heathervale Recreation Ground in New Haw shut in 2023 but is set to be replaced with a slightly larger, concrete space.

Ramps and bowl features will be installed in the new spot, over the footprint of the old wooden and metal park towards the canal.

Members of Runnymede Borough Council planning committee unanimously agreed to the "eagerly awaited" park on Wednesday.

Councillor Peter Snow said the park was "long awaited" and that skating is a sport for everyone to enjoy.

At the planning meeting, concerns around potential noise were highlighted but the council said a report showed the skating area would not increase noise levels.

The closest residential properties are 80m from the development, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The skate park will be built on a recreation ground that includes an outdoor tennis court, bowling green, nursery, playground, basketball court and football pitches.
