Police have issued an appeal for dashcam footage from an area where a man was found dead over the festive season.

The body of William McNicholl, who was 63 and known as Billy, was discovered at a property in Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, on New Year's Day, but police believe he was killed on Christmas Day.

Suffolk Police said it was seeking footage from the Chantry area of Ipswich on Christmas Day.

Det Insp Mark Hughes said: "If you, a friend or a relative, were in the area and saw anything suspicious, or you were driving and have a dash camera, please get in touch with us."

A post-mortem examination found the primary cause of death was a single stab wound, but Mr McNicholl had also suffered head injuries.

The force previously said the last sighting of Mr McNicholl, who lived on his own, was on 23 December, but he had been active on social media on Christmas Day.

Det Insp Mark Hughes said: "Perhaps you had visitors who would have driven along the roads in the Hawthorn Drive, Gippeswyk Park, Birkfield Drive and Belstead Road areas, or you may have done so yourself.

"No matter how small you feel a piece of information may be, it could be important in finding out who is responsible for Billy's death."

The force said a woman in her 50s was arrested on suspicion of murder on 11 January and has been bailed to return to the police station on 9 April.
