The special constable used the police systems for his own purposes, the force said

A former special constable was told he would have been dismissed for gross misconduct had he not previously resigned.

Kirk Allsopp, 46, was with Warwickshire Police for 18 months, most recently based in the south of the county.

His misconduct centred around him using police systems for a non-policing purpose, the force said.

A hearing on Wednesday, chaired by Assistant Chief Constable Claire Armes, led to Mr Allsopp being placed on the College of Policing's barred list - stopping him from working for the police in the UK.

Det Supt Paul Thompson said it was important police staff used their access to sensitive information appropriately and with integrity.

He said regular checks were carried out to make sure they were getting information for a legitimate policing purpose - and action would be taken if there were breaches of expected standards.

The outcome of the misconduct hearing was subject to an appeals process, the force said.
