Two teenage girls have been arrested by police investigating a fire at a derelict college.

Crews were called to the former Henley College building on Henley Road, Coventry, at about 19:15 BST on Tuesday.

The two girls, aged 14 and 15, were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of arson, West Midlands Police said.

Two boys, aged 14 and 15, were also arrested on suspicion of arson on Wednesday and were released on bail, the force added.

A spokesperson said of the two further arrests, the 14-year-old girl remained in custody while the 15-year-old was released on bail.

Crews were expected to leave the scene on Thursday afternoon after they have dampened down hot spots.

West Midlands Fire Service said it planned to revisit the site periodically over the next 24 hours to keep checking for any flare ups.

A spokesperson added that Henley Road had reopened on Wednesday night.

At the fire's peak, 75 firefighters were called to the scene and two crews continued to work at there on Thursday as areas had caught light again.

Commander Ryan Donaldson said 70% of the building was damaged with the other 30% saved from the "significant" fire.

He added he did not believe anyone was in the building when flames broke out and told the BBC the fire service's priority had been to save part of the building and to protect local residents.

West Midlands Police said it had stepped up patrols in the area after reports of anti-social behaviour.
