Man who used pot noodle lid to steal vodka jailed

A man who used pot noodle lids to try to steal alcohol from a supermarket has been jailed.

Kyle Genower, 28, entered Sainsbury's in Bretton, Peterborough, on 14 April, and attempted to use the foil lids to cover security tags on two bottles of vodka before staff stopped him.

Genower, of no fixed address, was arrested four days later after he threatened to stab staff at B&M, in Boongate, with a used needle and stole almost £150 worth of goods.

On Monday, at Huntingdon Magistrates Court, he was jailed for 16 weeks and ordered to pay £100 in compensation after he admitted nine offences.

Genower was also charged with stealing other items worth hundreds of pounds, including chocolate worth £120.

PC Josh Holmes, who investigated, said: "No one should fear violence or be intimidated while at work, and I would like to thank those involved for reporting it to us."
