Three men have been arrested after border guards at Aberdeen Airport seized drugs hidden in suitcases worth an estimated £1m.

About 150kg of cannabis was found in the luggage when the men arrived in the city from London Heathrow on 20 December.

The men, two of whom are aged 25 and one who is 19, are thought to have travelled to the English capital from Bangkok, Thailand via Doha, Qatar before being arrested by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers.

The three have not been charged, but have been released on an undertaking to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on 16 January.

The Evening Express reported about 25kg of the drugs were spread between six suitcases.

The seizure, thought to have a street value of about £1m, is the largest ever made at the airport.

Police Scotland was not involved in the operation.

An NCA spokesperson said inquiries were continuing.
