Snow and ice warning for parts of South West
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across parts of Devon and Cornwall.
The first warning for snow and ice begins at 17:00 GMT and ends at 10:00 on Tuesday.
A second warning for snow across both counties then takes effect from 09:00 on Wednesday until 23:59 the same day.
The UK Health Security Agency said an amber cold weather health alert was in force across the South West until Sunday.
The agency said low temperatures were likely to put vulnerable groups at risk and increase pressure on health services.
There could be disruption to travel, power cuts and potential injuries from snow and ice, said the Met Office.
"Outbreaks of snow may push in from the South West during Wednesday, potentially giving some significant accumulations in places," it said.
Between 2-5cm of snow "could accumulate fairly widely", it added, with about 10cm of snow possible over higher ground.
"Rain or sleet is more likely near coasts," it said.
Low temperatures
BBC South West senior broadcast meteorologist David Braine said the low pressure system had been named Floraine by MeteoFrance.
He said it would bring Arctic air and low temperatures throughout the day and night.
Another area of low pressure would track across France on Wednesday, with the boundary between cold air and rain to be across southern England, he added.
