Darley Cliffe Hall would be open for holiday lets but stag and hen parties would not be welcome

A Grade II*-listed country house for hire by large groups will not welcome stag and hen parties if it is converted into a holiday let, its owner has said.

An application has been submitted to Barnsley Council to change the use of Darley Cliffe Hall in Wosborough from a private house.

The hall has 3.26 acres of land, which includes woods and walled gardens.

The guest accommodation, if approved, would provide space for 18 people and be exclusively rented to groups.

The 17th Century property on Upper Sheffield Road's owner, Mark Ludlam, has experience of running holiday lets and wants the hall to be a "high-end" venue.

According to documents submitted, visitors would book for a minimum of two nights and could stay for up to a month, though hen and stag parties would not be permitted.

Music would only be played until 23:00 GMT under the house rules, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The hall, which has been called "Barnsley's most handsome house" and was remodelled in the Georgian era, was previously owned by a couple who ran Wakefield nightclub Fanny and Bacardi.

The proposal is currently under consideration by planning officers.
