A Nottinghamshire road has been shut again after a wall collapsed.

Town Street, in Bramcote, was closed to traffic by Nottinghamshire Police on Wednesday evening, the county council said.

Highways engineers were due to visit the site on Thursday to assess damage, with the aim of reopening with temporary signals in place on Friday.

The incident follows lengthy disruption last spring and summer after a different section of the wall collapsed.

A highways manager said recent "adverse" weather coupled with erosion of the wall's sandstone had led to the "minor" collapse of a new section of wall to the area repaired in 2024.

The manager said: "Engineers are visiting the site today to assess the damage and develop a plan for repairs and will aim to reopen the road by tomorrow with temporary traffic signals in place.

"We will keep residents and road users informed of any developments and plans to repair the wall."

The road was previously shut in April last year for gas works, but when the wall on the chicane - known locally as Devil's Bend - crumbled, the closure was extended into the summer.

After repairs and additional work carried out by National Grid, the road reopened to traffic later in June.
