Murder inquiry after man stabbed to death in street
A 38-year-old man has been stabbed to death in a street disturbance, prompting a murder inquiry.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the victim was found with a severe knife wound in Sussex Street, Rochdale, at about 02:30 GMT.
He died at the scene "despite the best attempts of emergency services", the force said.
Another man, aged 30, was also seriously injured but the extent of his injuries was "still unknown as he receives treatment at hospital but is currently in a stable condition", police added.
GMP said no arrests had been made but confirmed a murder investigation was under way.
Initial enquiries suggested it was "an isolated and targeted attack involving two people, and there is no wider threat to the community", their statement added.
Det Ch Supt Neil Jones said: "My sincere condolences go out to the victim's family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
"While no formal arrests have been made as yet, we are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident."
Police have also appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage or information to come forward.
