Plans to turn a former Lincolnshire leisure centre into a school for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have been submitted.

Harvest Land Management aims to turn the former Weaver Road building in North Hykeham, near Lincoln, into an independent specialist facility for children aged between five and 14.

Under the plans, the building would be converted into 14 classrooms, along with a gymnasium and breakout areas.

The proposals are set to be determined by North Kesteven District Council at a future date.

According to planning documents, the proposed development would allow local children to receive specialist support close to home.

The school would also be situated in an area with good transport links, the applicant said, with the A46 bypass a short distance away.

It would employ 47 staff when fully operational, the plans said.

The former leisure centre, which was previously also a gym, has been on the market for three years, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
