A woman in Boston says her family were left "terrified" after their house and cars were shot at with what is believed to have been a pellet or BB gun.

Genevieve Hibbert was with her husband and two young children at their home in Kitwood Road on Thursday evening when they heard popping noises.

Ms Hibbert said she thought the sounds were children messing about until she opened the curtains and saw a crack in her window.

Lincolnshire Police appealed for anyone with doorbell or dashcam footage of the incident, which took place between 18:00 and 19:00 GMT, to get in touch.

As well as the broken window, the frightened family then discovered that the windscreen of one of their cars was damaged and their other car was covered in pellet marks.

Ms Hibbert said: "It's terrifying. My mum said 'what if somebody was targeting you?' Then it would have really damaged one of us or one of the kiddies, which is really scary."

She called the police who graded the incident as category two, which means there is no immediate risk to life.

Ms Hibbert's five-week-old baby and four-year-old child were in the house at the time of the incident.

"We waited for the police all night," she said.

"My family's in this home. Surely that would make it go up [a] category.

"Our four-year-old was pretty shaken up with it because he thought somebody's trying to get in the house."

Lincolnshire Police said because no weapon was seen, the incident was categorised as property damage. An officer attended the scene at about 10:00 GMT the next morning.

The force spokesperson said they believed a ball bearing retrieved from the scene was responsible for some of the damage.

Officers would be conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area as investigations continued, they added.
