A man who subjected a woman to two years of violent abuse has been jailed.

Glen Hutchinson, 29, of Yarm Road, Eaglescliffe, who previously lived in York, pleaded guilty last year to intentional strangulation, four counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.

Hutchinson had subjected the woman to attacks including while she was pregnant.

He was jailed for four years and nine months at York Crown Court on Monday.

North Yorkshire Police said Hutchinson had also attacked the woman, punching her numerous times in the head, while he was holding a baby, resulting in the baby's head hitting a doorframe.

He had also tried to persuade his victim not to co-operate with the investigation, resulting in him being charged with perverting the course of justice.

Det Con Gemma Illidge said he had shown "no remorse for his behaviour" during the investigation.

"He breached his bail continuously which left the courts no option but to remand him.

"The victim was heavily pregnant during some of these horrific assaults that left her with extensive bruising.

"She was exceptionally brave to come forward to speak to police and support a prosecution. I know how hard it has been and I thank her for her courage and resilience during all of this."

She said she hoped the sentence would give her some reassurance and help put "her ordeal" behind her.
