A man was dragged from his car, assaulted, kidnapped and driven across a town before being dumped near a football stadium.

The 28-year-old was approached by two men while he was sitting in his car on Longford Street, Middlesbrough, at about 01:00 BST on Saturday,

Cleveland Police said he was pulled from his vehicle, assaulted, put into a black Mercedes and driven about 2.5 miles (4km) to a spot close to the Riverside Stadium where he was thrown from the car.

Detectives said they are particularly trying to trace footage of "a blue BMW that drove up and down Longford Street" prior to the attack.

The victim suffered facial damage and was being treated for his injuries at hospital, police said.

Det Con Yasmeen Hussain appealed for anyone with information, CCTV or dash-cam footage to come forward.
