A boat has sunk and blocked a canal in Coventry.

West Midlands Fire Service said they were called to the Oxford Canal between bridges four and five on Sunday to search the sunken narrowboat.

Images posted on X showed the vessel partially submerged and at an angle across the waterway, blocking the route.

A spokesperson for the fire service said the boat had been stuck since Saturday and no-one needed to be rescued.

The service warned people to avoid the area and said the Canal and River Trust had been informed.

"We do not know when it will be moved and we have left the scene," the fire service added.

The BBC has contacted the Canal and River Trust for more information.
