Paramilitary-style shootings have reduced, figures show

There was a marked reduction in the number of people injured in paramilitary-style shootings last year.

Figures released by the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI) reveal five people were wounded in 2024, compared to 19 in 2023.

None of the incidents occurred in Belfast.

There were also fewer victims of paramilitary-style assaults.

The number of shooting incidents during the last year was approximately half of the previous year - at 17 compared to 33.

Ards and North Down and Causeway Coast and Glens borough councils each experienced two shootings while Derry City and Strabane experienced one.

There were no paramilitary-style shootings in Belfast, compared to nine the previous year.

All five casualties last year were aged 18 years and above.
