Mail services from the Isle of Man to Canada have been resumed after they were halted due to a mass strike of postal workers in the country.

The month-long walk out by members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers in a dispute over pay began in mid-November.

Isle of Man Post Office confirmed the temporary suspension, introduced due to industrial action by Canada Post, had been lifted and services resumed on 2 January.

But a spokeswoman for the Post Office warned that customers should still "expect significant delivery delays into January".

She said: "Canada Post have been working to clear a significant backlog of items stored during the strike action."

Around 55,000 postal workers began striking on 15 November over pay and working conditions.

They returned to work on 17 December, under their existing collective agreement until 22 May, to allow for a new agreement to be reached.
