A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed in the leg in Rotherham.

Emergency services were called shortly after noon on Thursday to reports of a stabbing at Old Town Hall in Effingham Street.

A 51-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be serious but not life-threatening, South Yorkshire Police said.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, with officers appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: "We understand this incident will cause concern and distress in the local community.

"Officers are working at pace to find and locate those responsible and we will remain in the area."
