Pair arrested after man suffers serious head injury

Police have arrested two people after a man sustained a serious head injury in an incident involving a car and its driver.
The victim, in his 30s, was assaulted in Whitmore Way, Basildon, at about 17:30 GMT on Monday, Essex Police said.
He was taken to hospital and was receiving treatment for his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening.
A man, 42, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, and a woman, 35, was arrested on suspicion of affray and breaching a court order.
Officers said the victim was involved in an "altercation" with the driver of a car, thought to be a black Ford Focus with extensive damage.
Ch Insp Dan McHugh, district commander for Basildon, said: "I know this incident will have caused concern among our community but my officers have worked quickly to bring suspects into custody.
"We have had a visible presence in the area and if you have any concerns please come and speak to them."
