A fire has broken out at a circus during a live performance in Fife.

Firefighters were called to a trailer on fire at the Big Kid Circus in Glenrothes just after 19:00.

The Kingdom of Kong show at the circus, which features a 30ft (9m) tall animatronic gorilla, had started not long before at 18:00.

The Big Kid Circus said there were no injuries reported but the attendees were evacuated from the main tent while the fire was extinguished.

A spokesperson said it would investigate the cause of the fire and work closely with local authorities.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it had sent two appliances to the fire at the Warout Playing Fields.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

The evening show marked the fourth of 10 planned in the town.

Last month the family-friendly circus toured Motherwell, Cumbernauld and Falkirk.

It has future dates lined up for Balloch, Kilmarnock and Carlisle over the summer holidays.
