An investigation has been launched after a 19-year-old man was found suffering from a serious head injury on a street in the centre of Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said it was unclear how the man had come to be injured before he was discovered on Devonshire Street at about 02:30 BST on Tuesday.

The man remained in hospital in a serious condition, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, a force spokesperson said.

A cordon remained in place on Tuesday afternoon on nearby Trafalgar Street as part of inquiries, they added.

Anyone with information about what happened was asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.
