Man killed in two-car crash on A75 near Annan

A man has been killed and another is in hospital in a critical condition after a two-car crash on the A75 near Annan.

Emergency services were called out to the accident involving a red Suzuki Ignis and a black Nissan Pulsar at about 13:50 on Thursday.

The driver of the Suzuki - a 66-year-old man - was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 56-year-old man who was at the wheel of the Nissan was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where his condition has been described as "critical but stable".

The road was closed for several hours for crash investigation work and reopened at about 22:20.

Sgt Neil Moffat said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and they have asked for privacy at this difficult time.

"Inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

"In addition, if you have dash-cam please check it to see if there is anything that could assist our investigation."

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it had sent two ambulances, two air ambulances and a trauma team to the scene.

It said one patient had been airlifted to hospital in Newcastle.
