A dog has been destroyed after it attacked two people in Cheshire.

Police were called shortly before midday on Friday to reports of a dog attack at a house on Davenport Avenue in Crewe.

A woman was taken to hospital with serious lacerations to her right arm and thigh, while the man suffered minor injuries to his arms and hands.

The woman's injuries were not to believed to be life threatening or life changing, Cheshire Police said.

A force spokesperson confirmed the dog, which was not believed to be an XL bully, was destroyed by police outside the address.

Supt Gareth Wrigley said the decision was made by officers because the animal "posed a further risk to members of the public".
