The family of a pedestrian killed when he was hit by a car has paid tribute to "a loving family member and friend".

David Powell, 70, died after he was struck by a white Volkswagen Caddy on Bradford Road in Wrenthorpe, Wakefield, at about 20:20 GMT on 6 February.

The 51-year-old male driver, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released on conditional bail, police said.

In a statement, Mr Powell's family said: "David was a supportive and caring presence in all our lives."

The statement continued: "He was a loving family member and friend, he will be missed by all that knew him."

Anyone with information about the collision, or dashcam footage from the scene near the junction of Broom Hall Avenue, was asked to get in touch with police.

"Officers are particularly keen to trace three people who may have been exiting a taxi near to the collision scene immediately prior to the collision," a police spokesperson added.
