Inquest set into death of man after police detention

An inquest is set to begin next month into the death of a man who died after police detention.
Kaine Fletcher died in hospital on 3 July 2022 after he was detained by Nottinghamshire Police.
A pre-inquest review at Nottingham Coroner's Court on Wednesday heard the inquest would examine decisions made around the response to Mr Fletcher's condition at the time.
The inquest is due to begin on 30 June.
Mr Fletcher's father Nathaniel Ameyaw and aunt Letitia Fletcher are expected to give evidence during the hearing.
An investigation into Nottinghamshire Police officers' contact with Mr Fletcher before he died was carried out by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and concluded in 2024.
A spokesperson for the IOPC said: "Following a referral from Nottinghamshire Police in July 2022, we began an investigation into their officers' contact with Kaine Fletcher prior to his death in hospital after detention.
"All officers were treated as witnesses throughout our investigation, which was completed in April 2024.
"The investigation report has been shared with Nottinghamshire Police, Mr Fletcher's family and the coroner.
"We will publish our findings on conclusion of the inquest proceedings. Our sympathies remain with Kaine Fletcher's family and all those affected by his death."
