A man has been arrested after a dog that was thrown from a building in Birmingham died.

West Midlands Police began investigating after receiving reports the dog was thrown from a property on Greenvale Avenue, Sheldon, on 24 February.

Detectives said a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after he failed to stop for officers in Solihull on Wednesday.

He has been released on bail with strict conditions while investigations continue, the force said.

"We want to say thank you to the public for coming forward with information," a spokesperson added.

"We understand the distress this has caused the local and wider community."
