A man who threw missiles at police during a riot has been jailed for almost four years.

Joseph McKenzie, 28, was heavily involved in altercations with officers in Middlesbrough on 4 August.

The riot was one of several that broke out around the country in the wake of the murder of three girls in Southport by a knife attacker.

McKenzie, of Skeldale Grove in Darlington, was found guilty of violent disorder and jailed for three years nine months.
